Description
The Wheeler Memorial Maths Lecture
Professor Budd is a mathematician known especially for his contribution to non-linear differential equations and their applications in industry.
In January 2022 he became Principal Investigator of the £3.5million EPSRC (Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council) Programme Grant Maths4DL on the mathematics of Deep Learning, joint between Bath, Cambridge and UCL, which runs until 2027.
Appointed to the Chair of Mathematics of the Royal Institution of Great Britain in 2000, Professor Budd is eager to popularise mathematics and works with schools on various projects in addition to writing ‘Mathematics Galore’, a book reviewed by the Mathematical Gazette and considered worthy of a place on the top shelf of any Maths Dept. due to its ability to enthuse, educate, inspire and challenge.
‘Chris’ describes himself as “either a mathematician who climbs mountains, or a mountain man who does maths.” He is often accompanied by his dogs, Josh and Monty.
